Gamification in learning is the use of video games in the teacher's teaching methods in order to increase students' motivation to participate in the class and become more engaged with the teacher. There are several games that can be used such as:
- World Cup Game, similar to jeopardy, which is a game related to football and in specific to the world cup. In this game, student will be divided into 2 groups and each one will pick a team that he support and play for it by answering the questions present and the right answer gets the point "Goal" the student "team" with the highest score wins, in this way students that will get competitive to answer the multiple choice questions and know the answers so that their team wins. Every answer is accompanied by sound effects for the right or wrong answers to make them feel that they are in a football match. This game can only be useful in a class where the students are a fan of football, however, not all students enjoy playing this sport or understand the rules of it, thus they won't be engaged in it.
- Nearpod, more used in online teaching because it's played on mobile devices and it requires a code to start playing. This game is equipped with several themes to meet the students' interests and motivate them to participate along with sound effects as well, and characters that the students choose to impersonate. Students will answer the questions present in a certain interval of time, and statistics regarding the number of students who answered and what was there answer will be shown for the teacher to keep up with the students performance, and at the end the leadership board will show the students score. This will make the students more competitive and thus motivated to participate and answer the questions correctly in a fun way. Such game can get the students on-task and ensure deep understanding of the concept in fun activities, therefore it is a useful tool.
- Digital Escape Room, depending on the topic a theme will be created in this game, where there is an image or setup shown to the students. In this image there might be a link or something to help you get a clue to the answers of the questions. Students only will move to the next question when they find the correct answer. Such a game is useful in subjects like chemistry because it helps the students think well in the answers or for a solution of the problem presented.
